POWELL SR., ROBERT 

Robert William Powell Sr., 76, a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and 
resident of Lafayette, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015, at his residence in 
Lafayette. 

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at St. Bernadette of 
Soubirous Catholic Church at 409 Funderburk Avenue in Houma. 

He is survived by his sons, Robert William Powell II and Ryan Willis Powell; 
five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Reba Burros and Rebecca 
Andrus; and former wife, Janice Powell. He was preceded in death by his 
parents, Pauline and Floyd Powell; sister, Rita Wilson; and son, Roderick 
Powell. 

Robert was a graduate of Lockport High School, received his BS and MS from 
Northwestern State University, and PHD studies from the University of 
California and LSU. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and Phi Epsilon Kappa 
Honorary Fraternity. 
He held the rank of First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong coach 
and pro-player for the AFL New York Titans. 

Carney Funeral Home in Lafayette is in charge of arrangements.
