Hanley, M.D., 89, a native and resident of Lockport, answered the Lord's call to be with his Heavenly Father Monday, April 6, 2015. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until funeral time Thursday, April 9, at Victory Life Church in Lockport. A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in Holy Savior Mausoleum in Lockport. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanna Wade Hanley; children and their spouses, Robert "Wade" Hanley, Kenneth and Lauryn Hanley, Michael and Sharon Hanley, Constance "Connie" Hanley, Judith and Mark Brinkman, Jack and Monica Hanley, and Alan and Deonna Hanley; grandchildren, Laura John, Lynn Segari, Patrick Hanley, Rachel Hanley, Aaron Brinkman, Marcus Brinkman, Meghan Hanley, Larissa Hanley, Jacob Hanley, Jamison Hanley and Parker Hanley; and great- grandchildren, Juliana John and Jessica John. He was preceded in death by his parents, John P. Sr. and Anna Fleming Hanley; siblings, Maud Kringel, John Hanley Jr., Dr. Fleming Hanley, Lawrence Hanley, Alice Miller, Dr. Patrick Hanley, Anna Bourgeois, William Hanley, Lolita DeFelice and Lionel Hanley; and daughter-in-law, Martina "Tina" Hanley. As a lifelong resident of Lockport, Dr. Hanley practiced family medicine for more than 40 years serving the people of Lockport and Bayou Lafourche communities. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He also served his community through the Lion's Club, the Lafourche Parish Medical Society and the Louisiana State Medical Society. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II at the Naval Air Station Tillamook in Oregon.Robert was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His favorite pastimes were fishing for speckled trout in the coastal waters of south Louisiana, growing and caring for his rose bushes, attending bible study, and enjoying his grandchildren. He was a selfless man of God known for his wisdom and kindness by all whom he served. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to any church.The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of St. Anne General Hospital and of Broadway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and loving care of Dr. Hanley.
