Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma and from 9 a.m. until funeral time Thursday, May 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery, Chauvin. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elaine Marie Chaisson Hebert; sons, Randy "Monk" Hebert and wife, Arletta, Tommy "Weed" Hebert, and Jamie "Boo" Hebert and wife, Racheal; daughter, Peggy H. Portier and husband, Steve; brothers, Reis Hebert and wife, Melva, Amos and Wallace Hebert; sister, Clara H. Neil and husband, Roosevelt "Kie"; sister-in-law, Nettie Hebert; grandchildren, Jeramie Portier and wife, Christina "Tina", Jason Portier and wife, Angelle, Jake Hebert and wife, Lacey, Cole Hebert and fiancee, Macy, Wilbert "Willie" Hebert and wife, Amber, Trent and Tyler Hebert, Victoria, Alaina and Ava Hebert; great-grandchildren, Kelcey, Jayden, Jace and Addison Portier; and step-great-grandson, Carson Archer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Louis Sr. and Juliane Marie Duplantis Hebert; brothers, Walter, Morris, William, Charles Ray, Ivy and wife, Agnes, Russell "CoCo" and wife, Eula, Henry "Picky" Jr. and wife, Nelda, Junius "Bud", Aaron and wife, Florence; sisters, Frances Hebert and Lois Crochet and husband, Miller; and sister-in-law, Letty Ann Hebert.. Peter was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He worked as a boat captain for 44 years on a boat that was contracted to Texaco. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially their Sunday dinner gatherings. He also enjoyed going to the casino, doing carpentry work and trawling. His biggest goal in life was to help people in need and he succeeded. Every time someone called for help, he never hesitated to go. The family would like to thank the nurses at Physicians Center, TGMC, Bayou Home Health Care, Haydel Memorial Hospice, Patti Voss, Dr. Brian Matherne, Dr. Robert Gamble, Dr. Long, Dr. Bourgeois, Dr. Eric Rau and Dr. LaSalle.
