Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2015/f1507.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Serena “Weenie” Gibbens Borne, 100, a native of Baton Rouge and longtime resident of Thibodaux, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday, Aug. 4, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux. She is survived by her children, Annette Knobloch and husband, Bernard, Richard Borne and wife, Pamela, Carrie DeLorge and husband, Edward, and Benjamin Borne and wife, Mollie; grandchildren, Andre’ Dupont, Allison Dupont Viator and husband, Blaine, Mary Knobloch Schwartzenburg and husband, Jason, Frances Knobloch Finley and husband, Dewitt, Richard Borne, Jennifer Borne Loupe and husband, Jacob, Allen Borne, Nicole Knobloch Wallace and husband, Cory, Katherine Knobloch and husband, Aaron, Corrie DeLorge Minges and husband, Lester, Emily DeLorge, Josiah DeLorge, Sarah Borne Simon and husband, Matthew, Rebecca Borne Alcala and husband, Romer, Claire Borne and Jonathan Borne; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Gibbens Viator, Luke Viator, Ellis Schwartzenburg, Bruce Schwartzenburg, Hazel Finley, Estelle Finley, Richard Borne, Wyatt Loupe, John Loupe, Abram Loupe, Anneliese Wallace, Matthew Wallace, Catherine Wallace, Colette Knobloch, Rachel Minges, Ocean Alcala and Beau Simon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Joseph Borne; parents, Richard Thomas “Tom” Gibbens Sr. and Mary Caroline “Carrie” Elder; siblings, Lillian “Nang” Kleinpeter, Carrie “Tots” Shaver, Richard “Dick” Gibbens Jr., Francis “Frank” (Brother William-Henry, S.C.) Gibbens, Sara Day “Pet” Robichaux, Julia “Jute” Breeding, Durbin “Dub” Gibbens, Benjamin “Ben” Gibbens, Mattie Richards, Frances Gibbens and Theresa “Weesie” Callahan; and lifelong friend, Catherine Manuel Sibley, of Baton Rouge. Serena attended Mt. Carmel Academy in Thibodaux and then St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge, where she graduated in 1933. She was also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking of the South at LSU. She was a longtime Thibodaux banker, with a 50 year career at Lafourche National Bank, and after a short period of retirement, 8 years at Acadian Bank. Throughout her banking career, she was passionate about helping others achieve their goals. Her favorite pastimes were fishing in the surf at Grand Isle, league bowling, and most importantly, spending time with family. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Co- Cathedral.
