A native of New Orleans, Louisiana and a resident of Gray, Louisiana transitioned from his earthly vessel on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the age of 58. Michael accepted Christ as his savior and devoted many hours studying the bible. His favorite hymn was "Yes Jesus Loves Me". He attended Orleans parish schools and successfully achieved his General Equivalence Diploma through the job corps in New Orleans, LA. He also attended Southern University and her served his country in the U. S. Army. He worked as a landscaper for Metairie Country Club for over 30 years. Michael loved his family and was a devoted friend. He was a protective and supportive son, father and brother. He was a faithful companion to Dorothy Hampton for over 25 years. "Oh death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin: and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthains 15:55-57 He will have visitation at Community Funeral Home 230 S. Hollywood Rd. Houma, LA on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 6-9:00p.m. His home going service will be held at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 101 Gray St., Gray, LA 70359 on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Visitation from 9a.m. until funeral time at 11:00a.m. He will be buried at Halfway Cemetery 3840 West Main St., Gray, LA 70359. Michael is survived by his father, David (Brenda) Gauthier of New Orleans, LA; three children, Nathaniel Michael Bates of Lafayette, LA; Michael Morris Bates of Baton Rouge, LA and Myshetta "Missy" Bates of New Orleans, LA. Seven siblings, Willie(Marie) Gauthier, Katherine(Michael) Batiste, Carolyn (Bernard) Toppings, Ronald Gauthier, Doris Gauthier, Bryan(Monique) Gauthier and Cheryl (Aristede)Hayes; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Henrietta Lee Gauthier and his maternal and paternal grandparents, Nathan and Oliva Lee and Paul and Henrietta Parker Gauthier, respectively and the mother of his children Deborah Bates.
