"Captain Bab" Joseph Babin Jr., 89, a native and resident of Houma, died at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Rhea Marie Chauvin Babin; sons, Larry Babin and wife, Linda Hebert Babin, Lonny Babin and wife, Dana Picou Babin; daughter, Linda Babin Redmond and husband, Russell Redmond; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin Babin Sr. and Lorel Theriot Babin; and sister, Genevieve Bergeron Ramsey. Calvin was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for the Houma City Police for 5 years. After that he worked for the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office for 30 years retiring at the rank of Captain. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the FOP. He was member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church for nearly 90 years and was an active member of that congregation for many years. Calvin was a loving husband, a hard working provider for his family, a kind, playful grandfather and a wonderful great-grandfather. He was known in the community for his woodworking and crafts. C.J.'s love of God was endless. He was always there when someone needed help or to have something fixed. In his mind, there was always a way. Calvin will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the community. Samart Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of arrangements. U.S. Navy ======================
