Petronella Lawson Shelvin, 65, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of 
Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Saturday, Sept. 5, at New St. 
Matthew's Baptist Church at 3966 Highway 311. Funeral services will be at 11 
a.m. Saturday at the church, 

with burial in Crescent Farm Cemetery. 

She is survived by her daughter, Marial Lawson; sons, Johnny Lamont Lawson 
(Lawanda) and Willie Young Jr. (Leslie); adopted daughter, Tyonda Norman; 
stepchildren, Tony Shelvin (Tequilla), Mychal Shelvin, Alton Shelvin Jr. 
(Kristal) and Emteasha Shelvin; 32 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 
stepmother, Pat Lawson; brothers, Isaiah Lawson Sr. (Geraund), Sherman Lawson 
Sr. (Bertha), Robert Lee Lawson (Shirley), Kevin Johnson (Leslie) and Thomas 
Joseph (Barbara); sisters, Olivia Lawson (Erroll), Victoria Richardson (Larry), 
Monique Williams and Regina Lewis; and sister-in-law, Andrea Wilkerson Lawson. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Shelvin Sr.; former husband, 
Willie Young Sr.; stepson, William Sneeze; grandson, Jaylen Jackson; parents, 
Elijah and Evaline Myles-Lawson; brothers, Zilton Lawson, Clarence Lawson and 
Elijah Lawson Jr.; sisters, Betty Mae McGuire and Edna Lawson; and brother-in-
law, Claude McGuire. 

Jones Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of arrangements.
