Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19 at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until service time. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church cemetery. Ethel was born on December 31, 1940, in Golden Meadow, Louisiana to Melvin and Olivia Adams Durio. Ethel graduated in 1958 from Golden Meadow High School, (now South Lafourche High School) and in 1962 from Nicholls State College, now Nicholls State University, with a Bachelor's degree in Education. While at Nicholls, Ethel became a member of the Sigma Tau Delta sorority. After teaching for the second half of the school year in Thibodaux, Ethel went on to teach English and Literature for an additional twenty two (22) years at South Terrebonne High School in Bourg, and was honored by the Terrebonne Parish School Board for her service. As a long time compassionate educator, she touched the lives of many students. Ethel was a loving sister, aunt, and friend to all. Her kind and caring nature will be missed by all who knew her. Ethel is survived by her brother, Nelson and his wife Karen of Lockport. She is additionally survived by nieces Cathy Lynn Breaux and her husband Wayne, of Raceland, Kristy Lee Serio and her husband Jason, of Slidell and nephew Dustin Cavalier of Lockport, three aunts, Vida Toups of Galliano, Evada Singletary of Porter, TX, and Rita Adams of Westwego, along with numerous cousins. Ethel was preceded in death by her father, Melvin "Mr. Andy" in 1997 and mother, Olivia "Tant Na" in 2005. While she loved her family and friends, the love of her life was a foul tempered green and blue parrot named Nosh, and later, a somewhat milder tempered parrot named Mister.
