Visitation will be on Tuesday December 15, 2015 from 9-11 AM at St. Francis Cathedral in Houma. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 AM with burial immediately afterwards at St. Francis #2. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “L” (Speedy) Chafin, Jr., her parents Warner J. Matherne and Mineola Hebert Matherne, her sisters, Alea Dupre, Anna Mae Nelton, Rosalie Pace, her brother Oliver Matherne, and her grandsons Logan Naquin and James A. Chafin. She is survived by her children Mary Susan Chafin Pizzolatto and her husband Peter, Debra Chafin DuBois and her husband Walter, James “L” Chafin, III and wife Kimberly, Peggy Chafin Dugas and her husband Michael; grandchildren Jonathan DuBois (Dominique), Brandon DuBois, Megan Hutchinson (Dale), Jessica Dugas Malcolm (Ryne), Michael Chafin Dugas, Emma Chafin, Caroline Chafin; great grandchildren Isabella Naquin, Sydney Hutchinson, Evangeline DuBois, James Paul Hutchinson, Scarlett DuBois, and Eli Bradley Malcolm; brother John Matherne, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Emma had a very strong faith in God. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir and sewed banners for the altar. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, Houma Doll Club and at one time 3 Po-Ken-No clubs where she had numerous friends. She was a true homemaker in every sense of the word. She was an accomplished seamstress, cake decorator and gardener. She collected dolls and loved decorating her home, as well as helping others with their homes. Family was everything to Emma. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved getting together to celebrate birthdays and holidays. The family would like to thank her caregivers and the staff of the Suites at Sugar Mill Point for their loving care of Emma during her years there. ======================
