He was a native of Jennings, LA and a resident of Thibodaux for the past 31 years. He was a professor of Economics at Nicholls State University. He was also a published author and was often cited in various regional, national, and international journals. He was actively involved in the Nicholls community by serving on various committees. In 2000 he was the recipient of the Argent Bank Endowed Professorship in the college of business. Morris was also an active member of the Thibodaux community band. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at Landry's funeral home on Canal Blvd, in Thibodaux, LA for 5pm till 8pm there will be a small prayer service at 7pm. Morris loved his family, his work, and his guitars. Most of the time in that order. He was so proud of the accomplishments and successes of his children and their spouses. Although he thought "the professor" was a more than fitting name for a grandfather, he settled on "Doc." Morris also enjoyed social media and catching up with old friends and family. Morris loved life. He is survived by his wife, Anna Lisa Huval Coats, of Thibodaux; a daughter, Kelsie Coats Pritchard, and her husband Garry and granddaughter, Charlie Ann, of Shreveport; 2 sons, Mason, and his fiancee Amanda Seeman of Houston; Ian of Thibodaux. Dr. Coats was preceded in death by his father, Basil A. Coats; his father-in- law Paul A. Huval; a brother-in-law, Tim A. Huval; and a nephew, Grant Calais. In lieu of flowers, the family request that you send or bring letters of special stories or memories of Morris so that they may be shared with Charlie or any future grandchildren so they will know about their "Doc". ======================
