She was born in Thornwell, LA, and grew up in Lake Arthur, LA and resided in Des Allemands for the last 70 years. A 1942 graduate of Southwestern Louisiana University with a degree in education, she taught in Jeff Davis Parish for two years before coming to Des Allemands Elementary in 1945. She left the public school system in 1947 to begin raising her family of two girls and three boys. She started an in home kindergarten program in 1959 which she ran for 16 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Stanley R. Dufrene, Sr. She was the devoted mother of Penelope Walker, Stanley Roy Dufrene II and wife Sandra, Leighton Dufrene and wife Wendy, Kristopher Dufrene and wife Christine and Aurora Romero and husband Alex; grandmother of Terence and Benjamin Walker, Kristi Arens, Brandi Passman, Trisha Guidry, Peyton Dufrene, Hollin Caire, Alexandre and Andre Romero and Ariel Stephany. Great grandmother of Avery and Julia Walker, Peyton and Emerson Arens, Jake and Cooper Passman, Karsyn, Parker and Dax Guidry, Harper and Tanner Dufrene, Koa and Madyn Romero. She was also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leighton E. Oliver and Cora Benoit Oliver; brothers, Leroy, Charles and Ralph Oliver and sisters, Thelma and Sue Oliver and Ruby White. She was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church for 70 years and a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medallion for her service to her church. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Falgout Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements. ======================
