He was stationed in Grand Isle during WWII where he met and married Margaret Simoneaud and later became a resident of Thibodaux. He was a founding employee of and retired from Cameco Industries (now John Deere). Following retirement, he worked for the City of Thibodaux for ten years. Ernest was a member of the Protectors No. 2 Fire Company, a member of the St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Pastoral Council and a "Man of Manresa". He moved to Houma after Hurricane Gustav. Ernest was a kind and gentle soul, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, James and wife, Mary Anné Goodwin of Houma; daughters, Kathy Stricklin and partner, Billy Fisher of Abita Springs, and June Claire and husband, Dr. Ed Wright of Panama City, Florida; and niece, Frances Daugherty of Tupelo, Mississippi. He is also survived by his grandchildren and their spouses, Kim Johnston Hogsett, Karen Johnston Toups, Josh Stricklin, Ed, Rob and Jude Wright, Elizabeth Goodwin Welborn, Joseph Goodwin and Mary Catherine Goodwin Gueldner; great-grandchildren, Graham and Brooke Hogsett, Bayleigh, Grayson, and Madeline Stricklin, Christopher Wright, Camille and John Hearst Welborn, Sam and Grace Goodwin, Cate and Macy Gueldner, Caroline and Will. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. and Tennie Lou Conwill Goodwin; brothers, Thomas and Edgar Goodwin; wife, Margaret Darline Simoneaud Goodwin; sons, Ernest Jr. and John Goodwin; and grandson, Paul Goodwin. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at 9 a.m., with the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
