She was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana on August 2, 1996, and later moved to Baton Rouge in 2001. A gifted student since Kindergarten, she attended McKinley High School, Mandeville High School, and graduated from West Feliciana High School where she was regarded as a trendsetter and an avid scholar. Payton was a talented visual artist and eccentric musician with an affinity, respect, and love for all creatures, great and small. She planned to attend Veterinary School after college. Payton (known to many as “Housey”) was a brave adventurer. As a small child she would explore the cane fields of Thibodaux and Clark St in Baker looking for buried treasure. By the age of 19, she had already traveled most of these United States, surviving simply on her wit and will. Her reputation as an activist, a freethinker and a feminist garnered lots of attention from younger women in her community who saw her as an inspiration and a role model. She changed many lives forever, and her many friends ensured that she knew it. Our beloved Payton is preceded in death by her grandfather, Dale Thibodaux, whom she treasured dearly. She is survived by her mother Marcie Ellyn Thibodaux and partner, Harley Derryck Johnson; her father Robert Olie Edwards Jr.; her brother Mason Trebor and sisters AnaLise Avelyn and Solara Sayer; her adoring grandparents Camye Thibodaux, Carolyn Edwards, husband Rod Fuhrmann, Bob Edwards and wife Pat Edwards, who all loved her deeply. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members, such as her Aunt Lisa Edwards Cook, cousins Maddie and Jared of Mandeville; Uncle Darren and Aunt Brandy Thibodaux and cousins Ella, Taylor, and Ali of Thibodaux, all of who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her amazing foster family who loved and cared for her for five incredible years; her mother Kimberly, her father Douglas, her grandmother Mary Ellen, and her siblings Mackenzie, Jackson, Sam, Nathaniel, and Mary Elizabeth. A secular celebration of her life will be held 3-8 p.m. Saturday, February 20, at Christ's Community Church, 26574 Juban Rd. in Denham Springs. In lieu of flowers, please create a work of art in her honor that reminds you of her. If you are able to join us at her memorial celebration and art event, please bring it to display. Burial in St. John Cemetery in Thibodaux is pending. Arrangements entrusted to Thibodaux Funeral Home of Thibodaux, LA ======================
