He was born in Houma, LA, the first son and second child of the late Charles P Maddocks and Hazel M Maddocks. Charlie was an outstanding athlete, graduating from South Terrebonne High School in 1964. In 1965 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Huey Crew Chief and gunner (VMO-2). While in the service he completed over 200 missions and was awarded several citations, including a Purple Heart with 1 gold star, the Air Medal with 7 silver and 2 gold stars, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Star. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him, as family and friends will attest. Those qualities, along with the strong work ethic instilled by his parents, served him well his entire life. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the USMC he earned a BA and a MA from USL (now known as UL). Charlie then went on to serve twenty-three years in education (as a coach, teacher and school administrator), fifteen years in law enforcement (as a parole officer and private investigator), and ended his work career as a polygraphist in Georgia. Along the way he also served as Editor/Storyteller of Pop-A Smoke, the Newsletter of the USMC/Combat Helicopter Association – his motto was "Never let the truth get in the way of a good war story". No one could tell a story like Charlie. Although he had many other interests, hunting was his passion – with cooking a close second. Charlie will be sadly missed by his family, especially his daughter, Sadie Maddocks and his grandson, Cohen Charles Herpin of Rayne, LA ; his sisters and brothers-in-law, P Merle Maddocks and Alan Whitten of Athens, AL and Hazel and Paul Robert of Raceland, LA and Marsha Daigle; his brothers, Michael Maddocks and Todd Pitre of Thibodaux, LA.; several nieces and nephews; and the many friends he made throughout his life A memorial service is scheduled for February 20, 2016 at 11:00 am at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA. Charlie will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials in his honor may be made to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund ( https://semperfifund.org ). Mr. Maddocks and his family were cared for and entrusted final arrangements to Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory of Broussard. US Marines ======================
