Oncale, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Joseph Co Cathedral from 7:30 AM till funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Oncale was born in Thibodaux on March 10, 1932, graduated from Thibodaux High School and attended Nicholls State University. After serving overseas in the U.S. Army, he spent his whole life as an active, contributing member of the Thibodaux community. Oncale worked in the local banking industry for 32 years and was president of the Junior Bankers Association of Louisiana. He also served as president of the Thibodaux City Council and held a variety of leadership roles in the Lion's Club. Still, Oncale was a devoted family man before anything else. His most precious times were spent with family and friends. Many of his favorite memories were forged when they were all together at the family camp in Grand Isle, sharing the sun and the surf and lots of laughter … always lots of laughter. Oncale is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn Naquin Oncale, also a lifelong resident of Thibodaux; by their three daughters, Leslie O. Herpin Marx, Margo O. Badeaux, and Laurie O. Oncale; by five grandchildren, Alexandra Herpin, Austin Diaz, Kaitlyn Diaz, Victoria Diaz, and William Badeaux; by his great-grandson, Wilder Svoboda; and by his sister, Holly O. Naquin of Thibodaux. Oncale was preceded in death by his parents, Louis C. and Lily Rose Oncale, and by grandson Christopher Badeaux. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Lafourche Home for the Aged or the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank Lafourche Home for the Aged and Journey Hospice of Houma for their kindness and compassion. Landry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
