He was a native of Luling and resident of Thibodaux. A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, March 18, 2016 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Thibodaux from 8:00 AM until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church cemetery in Thibodaux. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Josie Gaubert Champagne; children, Kevin Champagne ( Tracey), Mitch Champagne ( Natalie), Bridget Nathan (Charles), Katherina Hawkins ( David), Celeste Caillouet ( Chad); grandchildren, Korey Champagne (Clair), Cristen Larousse (Brandon), Brittany Champagne, Brooke Champagne, Spencer Nathan, Jonathon Nathan, Alex Hawkins, Michael Hawkins, Cameron Caillouet, Connor Caillouet, and Caroline Caillouet; 3 great grandchildren, Fletcher Champagne, Frederick Larousse, and William Larousse; brothers, Adler Champagne, Kenneth Champagne; sisters, Jeanette Nicoley, Margie Butcher, and Mary Ann Lendle, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, William "Billy" Champagne, Jr.; parents, Alcest and Susan Champagne; brothers, Ralph Champagne and Stanley Champagne. After his retirement from Shell Oil Company, he enjoyed listening to Cajun music, dancing with his beloved wife, Josie, and spending time with his family. He raised beagles and was an avid rabbit hunter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus Council # 12060 or Lafourche Home for the Aged, 1002 Tiger Drive, Thibodaux, LA 70301 in honor of William Champagne.
