His final resting place will be alongside his Nanny whom he loved and adored. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at 3:00 pm at Northwood Baptist Church, 5236 Sunset Boulevard, Lexington, SC. Jason was born on December 6, 1964, in Tyler, Texas and passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at his home in Schriever, Louisiana. Jason graduated in 1983 from Lexington High School and went on to graduate from The University of South Carolina. Jason enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. These hobbies resulted in bountiful gardens of food he grew and many great hunting trips with friends and family over his lifetime. Jason was quite the cook and loved to prepare delicious meals for others ~ always adding something spicy as his special touch. He worked for BellSouth for several years, but his heart and tenderness was for the elderly. Jason was able to serve others through his work in various nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals. Jason was always able to connect with people, both young and old, through sharing of stories. As a friend, he embraced his friend’s families like his own and cherished these relationships. Jason loved to laugh and surrounded himself with people who brought him joy. Jason’s zest for life offered him adventures, but he always returned to family as his foundation of love, support and encouragement. Jason is survived by his mother, Claudia McKay Zorn (Joseph) of Schriever, LA; father, Jack Fortenberry of San Antonio, FL; brother, Joel Fortenberry (Shannon) of Summerville, SC; sister Amy Fortenberry Taylor of Irmo, SC; and nieces, Emma Fortenberry, Mattie Taylor; and nephews, Tyler Fortenberry, Creighton Taylor and Culley Taylor; step-sister, Hester Zorn Serrano and husband, Ed; step-brother, William G. Zorn and wife, Jenny. Also survived by his aunt Joyce Fortenberry Paro and her four daughters, Mary Ellen McKay Walsh and her son and daughter, Ruth McKay Reeves and her three sons. Likewise, his two lifelong friends and brothers in love, Steve Morris and Simon (Dee) Corley. He was predeceased by his grandparents Alma Olive McKay and T.H. McKay, Johnnie Reynolds Fortenberry and Dewey Fortenberry. Memorials may be made to Northwood Baptist Church, 5236 Sunset Boulevard, Lexington, SC. ======================
