In 1955, at the age of eighteen, young Valeria entered the Eucharistic Missionaries of Saint Dominic and was there known as "Sister Mary Timothy. O.P.". After decades of teaching, she was one of the first to join the newly founded Dominican cloister in Lockport. Her religious name was changed to "Mother Mary Elizabeth of Grace, O.P." and having served this Community generously in every capacity for many years, she humbly accepted successive terms as our Reverend Mother Prioress. Affectionately called "Mama" by her devoted daughters in religious life and "Nan" by her dear family, she was known for her beautiful smile and contagious giggling, her loving and self-sacrificial spirit, her constant concern for others, her optimism in every situation, and her amazing strength. She is survived by two brothers John Richard (Judy) Dupree of Jennings and Peter James (Sherill) Dupree of Houma, one sister Theresa Dupree Hinchee of Jennings, ten nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam "Babe" Dupree and Mina "Minnie" Langley Dupree. Those who wish to pay their final respects may visit the Chapel of the Dominican Monastery of the Heart of Jesus from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, 29 April 2016 and 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, 30 April 2016. A traditional Requiem High Mass will be offered for the repose of her soul at 11:00 AM Saturday, 30 April 2016 in the Chapel of the Dominican Monastery of the Heart of Jesus at 155 Church Street in Lockport, Louisiana. There will be a luncheon reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Dominican Nuns in Lockport.
