She was 101 years old. She was born to Wallace Smith and Florida Butler Smith on November 6, 1914. A Celebration of life for Mrs. Hazel Duchan will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2017 at Community Funeral Home 230 S. Hollywood Rd., Houma, LA 70360. Visitation from 9:00a.m. until funeral time at 11:00a.m. Her service will be officiated by Rev. Alvin Lacey of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Internment at St. James Baptist Church Cemetery 6319 S. Bayou Black Drive Gibson, LA 70356. Mrs. Duchan accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. A. J. Pharr. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Julius Duchan. There was no children born to this union. She was a faithful member of St. James Baptist Church where she served untiringly as the Mother of the church, deaconess, usher and choir member under the leadership of Rev. A.J. Pharr and Rev. Eugene Brown. She is survived by her godchildren, Lloyd Gibson, Allen Craft, Elaine Washington, Ruth Short and Dana Tyler. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Duchan and her parents, Wallce Smith and Florida Butler Smith. Her grandparents, Shedrick Butler and Louise Jackson Butler. One sister, Louise Butler Granderson and three brothers, Edward, Norman and Wallace Smith, Jr. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Community Funeral Home 230 S.
