Mr. Nails is survived by his daughter Nicole Nails Stone and her husband John William Burkett Stone III, and granddaughters Madison Elizabeth Stone and Lily Nicole Stone of New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his wife Celine Gaudin Nails, originally from St. Martinville, his parents Willie and Cora Thomley Nails of Coushatta and Shreveport, and his older brother William Franklin Nails of Lafayette. His cremains will be interred into the Nails family plot of Moonlight Gardens in North Louisiana's Springville Cemetery in Coushatta, Red River Parish, Louisiana. Private graveside services will be conducted at a later date. Mr. Raymond, as he was popularly known, taught over 4,000 students in Lafourche Parish and in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux's Central Catholic High School in St. Mary Parish, and was well-known through various educational circles in southeast Louisiana. He was inducted into the Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame in 1999. He was a popular teacher noted for the accommodations of his students' intellectual, personal, social, and physical needs with challenging, no- foolishness, and demanding type of instruction in his classroom. Outside his classroom, however, he was a friend to all. With today's social media, he took great pride and enjoyment in his daily contacts and camaraderie with former students throughout the state, country, and the world. Upon graduation from Red River High School (Coushatta High School) in 1952, he earned a degree in education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches with post-graduate work at San Antonio (Texas) College, Thibodaux's Nicholls State University, and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He proudly served his county in the United States Army July 1957 – July 1959. A celebration of the lives of Raymond and Celine Nails will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church June 25, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 A.M.
