She was born March 23, 1923 in an oil boom town called Slick Oklahoma. The hospital was a tent. Her family moved to Oilton Oklahoma when she was a young girl. Later she married her high school sweet heart Marion J. Ghere. They were married for 54 years. They moved to Houma, Louisiana in 1956 and remained here ever since. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 9:00AM until service time at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 11:00AM at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will be in Terrebonne Memorial. “Mercedes” as she was known by most was preceded in death by her parents, A.L. Bart Greer and Floy McDonald Greer, and her brother Marion Greer, husband, Marion Jake Ghere and her son Dean Kevin Ghere. She is survived by two sons, Donald Ghere and his wife Annette and Dennis Ghere and his wife Patricia. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Mercedes was a cub scout den leader for 11 years and a member of the First Baptist Church in Houma, and a proud graduate of Oilton High School Class of 1940. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother. The family is forever grateful to the Thibodaux Health Care Nursing Home and St. Catherine’s Hospice. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
