Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2016/f1609.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Joseph Thomas "Coach" Silverii died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on September 14, 2016 in Thibodaux, Louisiana at the age of eighty-six. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Thibodaux, LA from 8:00 AM until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Thibodaux. Joe is survived by his children; Joseph Steven Silverii, Debra Silverii Chachati and spouse Richard Chachati, Donna Jean Silverii, Stanley Jordan Silverii and spouse Lisa Silverii, Louis Scott Silverii and spouse Leah Silverii, Stuart Shaun Silverii, and Robert Stace (Tater) Silverii; sister Antoinette Silverii Palazzo and spouse Skip Palazzo, fourteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by wife; Mabel Jean Gilmer Silverii, granddaughter; Christa Rose-Lena Silverii, parents; Luigi and Rose Silverii, and siblings; Louis Silverii, Frank Silverii, and Carmen Silverii. Joe was born on July 31, 1930 in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania to Luigi and Rose Silverii. He played football at Holmes Junior College in Mississippi, where he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame and nicknamed "Jumpin' Joe Silverii." There he met and married the love of his life, Mabel Jean Gilmer. He joined the Army and was active duty during the Korean War. When he returned, he played football for Mississippi State University and earned his teaching degree. He taught and coached at Carthage High School in Carthage, Mississippi before moving to Thibodaux, Louisiana to teach and coach at Thibodaux High School, where he remained for thirty-three years. He was also the successful co-owner of Jean's Flower and Bridal Shoppe, where he and his beloved wife Jean served the community for many years. The family would like to thank the staff at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Doctors Francis Robichaux, Brownie Fortier, and Wesley Magee, St. Joseph Hospice, and Jamie Francise and the staff at Lafourche Home for the Aged.
