Mr. Calder was born in Coffeyville, Kansas and was a longtime resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. He had resided in Houma for the last 53 years. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of the Raceland Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Annie Carolyn Sharpe Calder; parents, Arnold and Catherine Gentry Calder; step-sons, Eddie, George, and Timothy Parham; sisters, Nancy Soulier and Catherine McKee; and granddaughter, Lorelei Calder. He is survived by a son, Michael A. Calder, Jr. and wife Janine; step-son, Louis Parham; grandchildren, Jessamyn Orgeron and husband Timothy, Michael A. Calder III, and Joseph A. Calder and wife Jenna; great-grandchildren, Michael A. Calder IV, Loralie Calder, and Alexa Orgeron; and a host of nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Michael was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He worked hard all of his life to ensure that his family never went without. He refused to work out of town when the children were small so that he could be with his family where he belonged. He worked for many years as a truck driver for the oil and gas industry. He was well respected and often referred to as a true gentleman. Visitation will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2016, with a song service at 10:30 AM and funeral service at 11 AM, at Falgout Funeral Home located at 211 Westside Blvd. in Houma. Burial will follow at a later date in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank in memory of Mr. Calder.
