Visiting will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 9:00am until the hour of service at 11:00am at St. James Catholic Church in St. James. Burial in St. James Catholic Church in cemetery St. James. On August 21, 1943 Royal Melancon was born to the union of Joseph Sr. and Flavia Nash Melancon. Royal was baptized at St. Phillip Catholic Church in Vacherie, LA. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, making sure he gave he gave his Lord and Savior much praise and glory. Royal was educated in St. James Parish School System, where he utilized everything that was taught to him. In Royal’s youth, he enjoyed playing semi- pro softball with the Baytree Sport for 4 years. Royal and Geraldine were united in Holy Matrimony, God Blessed “Roy” with five lovely children: three daughters; Cynthia and Jada Melancon, and Shelcy (Murphy Jr.) Legaux; two sons: Dion Melancon and Alfred Smith Jr. He was employed at Avondale Shipyard for 24 years, until he suffered a stroke in 1986. Royal loved to take long shopping trips, where he would browse different stores and medal the sales people. To know “Roy” is to know that he never “bite his tongue”, making sure that he had the last word. “Roy” would take charge in everything he would do, being “bossy”, was something that came natural too him. He spent his leisure time fishing, spending time with his brothers, and enjoying his sister “Mice” Sunday dinners. He leaves to cherish his memories: Three daughters; Cynthia and Jada Melancon, and Shelcy (Murphy Jr.) Legaux; two sons, Dionne Melancon and Alfred Smith Jr.; 11 grandchildren, Tahria (Tyrone) Howard, Owen (Geralyn) Melancon, Jajeonatae Melancon, Taylor and Murphy III Legaux, Kasia Harry, Deonka Charles, Alfred Smith III, Asasha Smith, Jaden Aubert and Darryl Jasmin Jr.; one sister Florence “Mice” Roussell; Five brothers, Raymond, Larry (Linda), Steve (Debra), Clinton (Rita), and Barry (Verlyn) Melancon; one aunt, Eva (Lawrence) Hall; two godchildren, Donald Gloster and Latricia Love; four sisters-in-law, Shelia and Josephine Melancon, Mabeline (Rickey) Burdis, and Malinda (Edmond Sr.) Gros; three brothers-in-law, Curtis Castle, Andrew Jasmin, and Joseph (Mary) Jasmin; two devoted friends, Rudolph Sorrel and Leroy Nicholas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, neighbors, and friends. “Roy” was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Jasmin Melancon; parents, Joseph Sr. and Flavia Nash Melancon; four brothers, Joseph Jr., James, Roland, and Glenn Sr. Melancon; one sister, Stella Melancon Castle; one mother-in-law, Sedonia Jasmin, one father-in-law, Dewey Jasmin Jr., three sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
