She is survived by her parents, Mitchell and Jeri Thompson; brothers, Ben Thompson and wife Lindsey Peltier, Patrick Thompson and wife Lindsay Randazzo; godchild, Leyton Thompson; cousins, Dana Lirette, Lauren Lirette Haydel, Aimee Lirette Abbott, Lina Schmidt Hollis, Andrea Vasquez, Michael Thompson, Jr. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Gene and Laurel Thompson, Joseph and Betty Moore; aunt, Connie Moore; uncle, Randy Thompson. Michelle will be remembered as a courageous, kind and loving person. She was a fighter all of her life due to her heart condition but never gave up. Her claim to fame came when the Discovery Health Channel contacted her to televise her last surgery. A very difficult heart surgery lasting 14 hours. She was passionate about making a difference for herself and others with congenital heart disease. She became an advocate for the American Heart Association where she spoke before many of the heart walks and inspired everyone she met. She also travelled to Washington D.C. for the heart and stroke lobby day and met with state and national leaders asking for support. She worked “Camp Pump Me Up” sponsored by Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston for children affected by Congenital Heart Disease. Her presence to young parents was so inspirational giving them hope that their children may live a full life. Michelle was also a member of the Junior Auxiliary league of Houma and worked on many projects to help children and families in need. She was an Advocate with CASA of Terrebonne where she advocated for several children and saw their cases to the end with a safe and permanent family. Though she never had children, she took pride in sitting with her friend’s children and becoming their unofficial nanny. She also helped care for her ailing grandmother who lived with Alzheimer’s until her death. Michelle enjoyed painting, gardening, decorating for the holidays and listening to music. She loved to travel visiting many places including Galveston, Costa Rica, California, Florida, Las Vegas, Arizona and other places out west The family would like to thank everyone who participated in the “Meal Train” providing meals to the family while they cared for Michelle. A special thanks to Pam Cannon, Mindy Green, Jenny Weatherall and Lauren Haydel who have been with the family with undying support. The family would also like to thank Haydel Hospice for their caring support and to Michelle’s nurse, Carol Haydel and aide Germaine Caldwell. Their daily visits made life more bearable. Thanks also for Sister Miriam for her spiritual support. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to www.childrensheartfoundation.org or be mailed to: The Children’s Heart Foundation, P.O.
