John Douglas Cullever, Sr., 89, died Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 3:52 PM. 

A native of Oak Grove and resident of Houma, he was born, March 27, 1927.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 from 11:00 AM until 
service time at The Chapel at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove, LA. A funeral 
service will begin at 1:00 PM in the chapel at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie Newton Cullever; daughter, Debra 
Cullever Smith and companion, Arthur DeFraites, III; son, Daryl Cullever; 
granddog Rex.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Claddie Cullever; sisters, 
Audell Ratcliff, Ernestine Orr; brother, C.L. Cullever; son, John Douglas 
"Doug" Cullever, Jr.

He served in the United States Navy and Army during World War II and the Korean 
War. He retired from Boeing Petroleum Services/The Strategic Petroleum Reserve. 
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a 50 year member of the Oak Grove Masonic Lodge 
#284. He loved LSU football and the New Orleans Saints and rarely missed a 
game. 
He loved to joke and laugh and enjoyed spending time with his family and 
playing with his granddog, Rex. 
He had an infectious personality and a memorable laugh that will be missed 
dearly by his family.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s 
Association or the American Cancer Society.
