Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2016/f1612.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Rebecca Bush Melancon, 67, a native of Lafayette, LA and a resident of Houma, LA went home to the Father's house on Saturday, December 17, 2016. A visitation will be held in her honor on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, Houma, LA from 8:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. A Graveside service will follow immediately after at St. Anne's Cemetery in Napoleonville, LA. She is survived by her 2 children, Aimee Melancon and Father Andre Melancon; her mother, Rayetta Bush; siblings, William Bush, Jr. and wife, Brenda, Bonnie Craft and husband, Cliff, Mike Bush and wife, Pam, April Howell, and Chris Bush and wife, Kellie. She was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Melancon, Jr.; her father, William M. Bush, Sr.; and her brother-in-law, Eric Howell. Rebecca's father was transferred to Thibodaux with Southern Pacific Railroad when she was 6. She lived in Thibodaux until she was married then moved to Houma in 1981. Rebecca was a graduate of Thibodaux High and Nicholls State University. She was a proud member of Delta Zeta sorority, and she served the sorority as president and found many lifelong friends. Rebecca worked in Education for 36 years. Twenty-nine of those years were spent as a teacher with the last 7 spent as a school counselor. Her longest stay at a school was 19 years at Mulberry Elementary. She left Mulberry in 2000 to be a school counselor at East Houma Elementary. Other schools that she taught at were Thibodaux Elementary, Lockport Lower, West Thibodaux Junior High, Caldwell Middle School and St. Genevieve. Rebecca had a passion for teaching. For her, education was a true calling and she tried to make a connection with every child she taught. She wanted each child to know they were special, and she worked tirelessly to help them achieve their potential. She was known for her yearly musical productions where she thoroughly enjoyed passing on her love of music to her students. Rebecca was a devout Catholic. For many years, she led prayer groups at her home and was a part of other prayer groups in Houma and Thibodaux. Rebecca loved teaching religious education at St Mary's in Raceland where her daughter is a teacher and at St. Thomas in Thibodaux where her son is pastor.
