She was born on February 20, 1943 in Houma, Louisiana, the daughter of Felix (Doc) Blanchard and Vivian Tregre Blanchard. She was a native of Houma and resided in Gulfport, Mississippi for the last decade. Susan thoroughly enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, but not as much as they loved sampling her legendary dishes. She was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and Charity School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She cared for countless patients while working as a nurse at Lady of the Sea Hospital (Galliano, LA) and at Terrebonne General Hospital (Houma, LA). Before retirement, she also worked as a physician's office manager and performed private duty nursing and medical coding. In 1964, Susan married Kenneth Michael Pitre at Fort Riley, Kansas while Michael was stationed in the Army First Infantry Division. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Vivian Blanchard; son, Michael "Little Mike" Pitre; and sister, Catherine Domangue. Susan is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth "Mike" Pitre, her daughter, Denise and husband, Richard Russell of Thompsons Station, TN; son, David and wife, Dr. Laurie Pitre of Gulfport, MS; daughter, Dawn and husband, Damon Riché of Columbia, TN; sisters, Nora Biddle, Patricia Babin, and Joan Cheramie; and six adoring grandchildren, Jeremy and Zachary Riché, Torrey and Kristen Russell, and Madeline and Sophia Pitre. Visitation is scheduled on Saturday January 28, 2017 beginning at 9:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport, MS followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Her final resting place will be at Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of the family to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. ======================
