Born, April, 7 1923, she was a native of Lafayette and resident of Houma, LA. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 11:00AM until service time at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00PM at the church with burial following at Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. She is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Richard ) R. MacWilliams, Rhonda (J.D.) R. Schoonenberg; son, Bradley (Patti) Rome; grandchildren, Kent (Meghan) MacWilliams, Kate MacWilliams, Conor MacWilliams, Spencer (Brooke) Schoonenberg, Emily Schoonenberg, Lindsay Rome, Jamie Rome, Harrison Rome and Ellie Rome; great granddaughter, Reagan MacWilliams; sisters, Mary Ann Holmes and Gail Hebert and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Rome, Jr.; parents, George and Stella Girouard Hebert; son, George Rome, III; brothers, George Hebert, Jr. and Patrick Raymond Hebert, brother in law, Richard Holmes; sisters in law, Mary Ann Hebert and Gloria Hebert. She was a graduate of Terrebonne High School. She attended SLI in Lafayette for two years before attending nursing school at Hotel Dieu where she was President of her class. In her senior year of nursing school she was recruited to the U.S. Army Nurse Cadet Corps to supplement the nursing shortage in the United States during World War II. At her 50 year class reunion she received the Alumni of the year award. She was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. She, along with her husband George were founding members of the church and was one of their first Eucharistic members to the homebound. She remained active with the church into her late eighties. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters for many years. She was a private duty nurse in Houma. She found her passion when she began working for the first OB GYN in Houma, Dr. Walter Bringaze and continued for over 25 years. Her family would like to thank her beloved sitters, Cathy Cambre, Charlotte Foret, Kathy Shirtler, Catherine Bourdier, and Nita Callegan.
