James Lee “Jim” Alcock, 84, died Sunday, February 5, 2017. 
He was a native of New York, and a resident and practicing attorney in Houma, 
Louisiana for the last forty years.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 9,2017. Visitation will 
be from 11:00 am until mass at 12:00 pm at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. His 
final resting place will be the Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Rhodes Alcock, son James Lee Alcock, Jr. 
and his wife Rachel; daughter Catherine Crowley and husband Bill; daughter 
Courtney Alcock, and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Jim was born in New York on January 1, 1933. He served in the U.S. Navy before 
attending and graduating from Loyola University of New Orleans with a degree in 
accounting. He returned to Loyola Law School and received his juris doctorate 
in 1962. After a brief stint working as an attorney for NASA at the Michoud 
Facility, Jim found his calling as a trial attorney in the New Orleans District 
Attorney’s Office working as first assistant under Jim Garrison from 1963 to 
1971. In 1971, Jim was appointed by Governor John McKeithan as a Judge in the 
Criminal District Court of Orleans Parish. In 1973, Jim was named First 
Assistant District Attorney for the newly elected Terrebonne Parish District 
Attorney Norval Rhodes, and served in that position until 1985. Jim continued 
to practice law with distinction until he retired in 2008 at the age of 75.

He loved his family, the law, sports, his lawn, and reading the newspaper with 
a cup of coffee. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Robert W. Alcock 
and parents, Frank and Helen Alcock.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the United Way for South 
Louisiana.
