He was born in Jatibonico, Cuba, and has been a resident of Houma, Louisiana for the last forty-eight years. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 9:30 AM until mass at 12:00 PM at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. His final resting place will be at St. Francis Cemetery II. Manuel is survived by his wife, Martha Schwartzenburg Merlos; son Manuel Francisco Merlos II and his wife Megan; daughter Anna Marie Merlos; sister Alina dela Caridad Merlos; and granddaughter Olivia Ann Merlos. Manuel was born in Jatibonico, Cuba on April 2, 1957, and arrived in the United States on August 13, 1968. He graduated from Terrebonne High School and then Nicholls State University. After a successful career in sales, Manuel became Vice President of Offshore Operations at Grand Isle Shipyard. Manuel is a board member of United Way for South Louisiana, and for the Krewe of Houmas Carnival Club. He spent a life serving his family, church, and his community. He was the recipient of the Hartwell Lewis Volunteer of the Year award in 2016. Manuel loved his family, being Mey Mey to Olivia, fishing and the outdoors, LSU sports, Mardi Gras, and being a loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Angel Manuel and Oneida Valdivia Merlos. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Way for South Louisiana ======================
