He was a lifelong resident of Schriever, LA. A tribute in honor of his life will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Thibodaux Funeral Home in Thibodaux, LA from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Religious Service in the facility’s chapel will take place at 4:00 pm. Burial will be held at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maureen Schouest Smith; children, Celeste Smith(Bill), Debbie Smith and Jared “Smitty” Smith; brother, Loy Smith (Patricia); sisters, Edith Fanguy (Lawrence), Betty Odum (Robert) and Barbara Hebert (Charles); grandchildren, Keyan Vassigh (Fojan), Mehdi Vassigh, Desarae Boudreaux, Danielle Boudreaux, Diana Defelice, Haleigh Smith, Noelle Smith and Cadence Smith; great-grandchildren, Daylen Michael Boudreaux and Daisey Raelynn Hampton. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harmon Loy Smith and Velma Brien Smith; sister, Catherine Smith Fortenberry; grandson, Devin Michael Smith. Smitty was a parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church where he was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. Smitty dedicated his life’s work, as a Safety Rep., keeping offshore personnel safe for J. Ray McDermott for 36 years. He was a “jack of all trades and a master of all”. He loved helping and sharing with others. His down time was spent, whenever possible, gardening, baking, growing and juicing satsumas, watching his hummingbirds, fulfilling honey-do projects and visiting with family and friends. Special thanks to his friend and sitter, Ann Mejia; Divinity Home Health Staff; Haydel Memorial Hospice Staff, especially nurse Patty Voss; his team of physicians and the Terrebonne Parish Council on Aging. ======================
