She was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Schriever, LA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 5 PM until 9 PM and Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 8 AM until funeral time at Chauvin Funeral Home with a service at 11 AM. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ronald “Ron” John Bartels; son, Mark Callais and wife, Carolyn; daughters, Phyllis C. Veronie and husband, Scott, and Cindy B. Lichenstein and husband, Robert; brothers, Johnny O. Jr., David K., Dean C., Jody L. and Jaimie W. Stinson; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sons, Philip W. Callais Jr., and Steven J. Callais; daughter, Michelle B. Park; parents Johnny Olen Stinson Sr. and Laura Estelle Marie Langlinais Pongrance; grandson, Jeffrey M. Hebert. Jackie’s life was consumed with a love for her family, hunting and conservation. She volunteered and served many conservation organizations including DU, SCI, CCA, LWF, NRA and LHEIA. Jackie was very proud of her work with DU’s Greenwing/Youth and Education Committee. In 2016, Jackie and Ron were presented the Louisiana Ambassador to Conservation Award. In 2007, Jackie was honored with SCI’s prestigious Diana Award recognizing her as the top female hunter in the world. They were also pioneers in the Sensory Safari, a program developed to allow sight impaired individuals to experience and enjoy wildlife. Jackie and Ron were inducted into the SCI Hall of Fame in 2006. In January of this year, Jackie & Ron received the Beretta and SCI Foundation Conservation Leadership Award, an award celebrating a lifetime of conservation work. In 2006, the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association awarded Jackie and Ron the Arthur Van Pelt Award for “Lifetime Wildlife Conservation Achievement”. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Ducks Unlimited, SCI Foundation, Coastal Conservation Association, or your favorite conservation group. On Saturday, April 1st Ducks Unlimited, CCA and others will host The Jackie Bartels Kids Conservation Fest. This event will provide the Thibodaux/Houma area kids with the opportunity to learn about the outdoors and conservation through 25 different stations.
