Born January 31, 1934, he was a native and resident of Thibodaux, LA. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 9:00AM until service time at Christ the Redeemer Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00AM at the church. He is survived by his wife, Kay Lestage Kurtz; sons, Gerald "Jay" Don Kurtz, Jr. and wife Susan, James "Jim" Wilson Kurtz and wife Erin; daughters, Julee DeLee and husband Brent, Jill Loupe; grandchildren, Ashley Hayman, Katie Kurtz, Elizabeth, William and James DeLee, Thomas, Matthew, Caroline and Lilly Loupe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Hoffman and Enola Boudreaux Kurtz. Jerry graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1953, Southeastern with a B.S. in 1958 and received his Master's plus30 at Nicholls State University. He began his teaching career at St. Michael's in Crowley, moved on to Lafayette High, Cecilia High and Plaquemine High. He was an outstanding athlete and ALL GSC in college baseball and was drafted by the Washington Senators. He refereed high school football, basketball and college basketball. He was well beloved by all of his former students and co- workers. He was affectionately called "Coach." Even though he was no longer a teacher he continued to train and mentor many throughout his career with Baroid/Halliburton. He never met a stranger and was always making people laugh and was a great storyteller. He was a big fan of all of his grandchildren and their many accomplishments, but the true love and passion of his life was his wife, "Honey." He was affectionately known by his grandchildren as "Poppa." He was an avid LSU and Saints fan, but had a great passion for all sports. He was a parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the hospice nurses, Danielle, Kristie, and Natalie; Dr. Francis Robichaux and Dr. Sandeep Patel for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. ======================
