Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, March 12 from 6:00 - 9:00pm at Samart Funeral Home in Bayou Blue, and again on Monday from 9:00-11:00am at Bayou Blue United Methodist Church on Lake Long Dr. A memorial service will follow at the church. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debbie Ventura Yelverton; his daughter, Cally Yelverton Trosclair and her husband, James; his son, Benjamin Yelverton; his mother, Irene Arceneaux Meadows; his mother-in-law, Dolores Nettleton Ventura; his brother, David Yelverton; his sister, Julia Yelverton White and her husband, Enis; and three grandchildren: Cameron, Jamie, and Chloe Trosclair. He was preceded in death by his father, Brealon Wilco Yelverton; two step- fathers, William Tyree and Theodore “Ted” Meadows; and his father-in-law, Gene Ventura. Robert graduated from South Terrebonne High School in 1967. His education in marine biology at Nicholls State University was interrupted by a Vietnam-era draft notice, so he joined the Air Force. In the Air Force, he was a radio repairman for the Hurricane Hunters and was first stationed at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico and then at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. After discharge from the Air Force, he was a lease operator with Pennzoil Oil Company and then Shell Oil Company. He transferred to gas plants with Shell Oil and worked at The Crawfish Plant in St. Charles Parish and the plant which is now called Enterprise North Terrebonne Gas Processing Plant in Gibson, LA. When Nicholls State University began the 7 and 7 educational program, Robert enrolled and earned an Associate Degree in Petroleum Technology in 1976, an Associate Degree in Petroleum Safety in 1980, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Technology in 1984 when it was finally offered. Robert was a serious deer hunter. He loved sitting in deer stands at Evangeline Hunting Club in Bowie, LA, and Lucky Hollow Hunting Club and Buck Creek Hunting Club, both in MS. He also loved driving and discovering new places, especially in the mountains. He was a “mountain man living in the swamps.” The Yelverton Family would like to thank all who cared for Robert: Dr. Brian Matherne, Dr. Donald Gervais and NP Jeanette Naquin, Journey Hospice, Synergy Home Health, the Council on Aging, especially Karla and Jessica, and above all his niece, Brittany Scott, who was there for him whenever he needed her. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association. ======================
