Cole, age 80, died on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at The Suites at Sugar Mill Point, a loving Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, in Houma, Louisiana. Bob was born on February 2, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Eileen Goodman and his late father Henry. After graduating from high school in Chicago, Bob moved to New Orleans where he attended Tulane University earning a degree in business. Following graduation from Tulane Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army serving two years active duty stationed in England. Upon returning from military service, Bob held various jobs eventually founding Bob Cole and Associates, Inc., an advertising and public relations business which remained operational until his failing health precipitated its closing in 2005. During his illustrious career in public relations, he was the promoter for the Ali-Spinks fight in New Orleans in 1978, advertising executive in the New Orleans metropolitan area for Edwin Edwards’ first successful run for Governor, and was also involved in the campaigns of Louisiana notables Lawrence Chehardy, Susan Chehardy, Paul Bonin, Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Pascal Calogero, and many other important political campaigns and public relations events. After decades as a confirmed bachelor, Bob married Yvonne H. Broussard in 1997 and often bragged that he had married a dear woman and gained four sons and daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They lived at his home on Taft Park in Metairie, Louisiana until being displaced to Thibodaux by Hurricane Katrina. There they built a home together where he lived until the ravages of frontotemporal dementia necessitated his move to the Suites at Sugar Mill Point where he received loving and excellent care and became “Mr. Bob,” the beloved “character” of the community. Prior to his decline in health, Bob and Yvonne enjoyed traveling the world and celebrating life together. Bob was an avid sports enthusiast, thrilled to witness his beloved Saints win the Superbowl and is certainly celebrating in heaven the Chicago Cubs’ World Series victory. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Eileen and Henry, his sister Rozanne C. Rothman, and his nephew Hal Rothman. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne; his brother-in-law, Neal Rothman; nieces Elaine Rothman Tang and Anne Rothman Wise; cousin Nat Rosenberg; and stepsons Vance, Karl, Guy, and Joel Broussard and their spouses and children. As per Bob’s wishes there will be no formal funeral service; instead the family will host a Memorial Celebration of his life at a later date. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff of The Suites at Sugar Mill Point and Haydel Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to “Mr. Bob.” Special thanks of love and appreciation to Keisha Warren, his devoted caregiver, whom he loved dearly.
