Rodrigue, Sr., a native of Chackbay and resident of Thibodaux for 60 years, died on May 13, 2017 at the age of 83. Visitation will be held in his honor at Thibodaux Funeral Home on Tuesday May 16, 2017 from 5 PM until 9 PM and at St. Genevieve Catholic Church on Wednesday May 17, 2017 from 8:00AM till funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Azelie “Lou” Rodrigue, daughters Ramona Dupre and husband Alvin Dupre Jr., Maxine Morvant and husband Jerald Morvant, Melinda LeBlanc and husband Keith LeBlanc, Melissa Boudreaux and husband Wade Boudreaux, Maria Arceneaux and husband Dale Arceneaux, Joy Aizen and husband Melvin “Ike” Aizen, and son Roy Rodrigue, Jr.; grandchildren, Benton Dupre and wife Loretta Dupre, Jeremy Aizen, Lindsey Morvant Naquin and husband Blake Naquin, Sarah Arceneaux, and Taylor Boudreaux; Great grandchildren, Jae’Lyn Aizen, Jeremiah Aizen, Inzlee Aizen, and Wyatt Dupre; half-brother Edward Legendre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rosine Rodrigue, brother Gerard Rodrigue, Sr., step brother Steward Rodrigue, step sisters Ethelyn Trosclair, Carrie Volpi, Mildred Legendre, and half-sister Agnes Boudreaux, and numerous nephews and nieces. Roy graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1951. He attended Francis T. Nicholls Junior College from 1951 to 1953 where he studied education and was an active participant in the R.O.T.C. program. In 1953, he enrolled at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He graduated in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in education. While at LSU, he worked at the Orange Bowl, a fast food restaurant near the main campus. As a student at LSU, he was active in the R.O.T.C. program and reached the rank of Company Commander. He attended R.O.T.C. summer camp in 1955 in Fort Hood, Texas. Three years later, he received infantry training in Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Later he joined the army reserves and served for eight years while attending school at Fort Benning for six summers. He retired as Captain. Later he married Lou Rodrigue. His first teaching job was at Thibodaux Upper Elementary in 1956. He then taught one year at L.T. School. He then spent twenty nine years at Chackbay Elementary. He and his wife did janitorial work cleaning offices at night. From 1970 to 1974, he worked at Rodrigue’s Food Store and Ridgefield Conoco. Finally, he worked for the City of Thibodaux’s Public Works Department as laborer supervisor from 1991 to 2001. Roy was an exempt member in West Thibodaux Fire Company serving for 50 years and also served as an usher at St. Genevieve Church. He was a life member of the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association, the Louisiana Retired Teachers’ Association, and the Lafourche Parish Retired Teachers’ Association. He was an avid die-hard LSU fan, Green Bay Packers fan, and New York Yankees fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by his many relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Thibodaux Home Health Care, St. Joseph Hospice and family, friends and neighbors for their support and care.
