He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 20, 2017. As per his request, his body was donated to Tulane Medical Center and no service will follow. Dixie was born on May 19, 1952. He leaves behind his wife Mona L. Santiny of 43 years, son Heath (April) of Vacherie, daughter Dixilyn of Rayne, 3 grandchildren which he adored Ethan, Reese, and Harrison Santiny all of Vacherie, his brother Chris Santiny, mother in law Shela Leonard of Breaux Bridge, brother in law Harry Leonard (Brenda) of Breaux Bridge and a host of aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dixie was preceded in death by his father Clifford Santiny, mother Mable L. Santiny, sisters Linda Santiny and Veronica Bradberry, father in law Harry Leonard, and numerous aunts and uncles. Dixie was a lifelong resident of Grand Isle. He was a councilman for the Town of Grand Isle that always worked diligently to better the place he called home. Dixie will be remembered for his big heart, love for his family and friends, and the love of his cats. Special thanks goes to Dr. Jimmy Ellis and his wonderful staff at Thibodaux Regional Cancer Center and Jill Usie and staff at Hospice of South Louisiana of Houma for their love and care of Dixie and his family. The family would also like to thank Sureway Supermarker, Clariant, and St. Martin Parish Sherrif's Office for allowing us to be with Dixie (Dad) through his battle. In lieu of flowers his family is requesting donations be sent in his memory to Rescue Me P.O.Box 122 Walker, LA 70785. ======================
