All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** State of Louisiana } Be it known by these presents that Parish of Catahoula } for the consideration herein after expressed Eli Splawn of the above residence has this day sold & by these presents does sell transfer & deliver unto Sarah Stone of the same residence who is personally present accepting for herself all his rights title & interest in & to fifty acres of Land situated in what is known as the island fronting on what is known as the French Fork of Little River. Said tract or fifty acres of land is the upper portion of the tract bought by the said Eli Splawn of Wm. L. Lacy beginning at the upper line of said tract & running back to the back line of said tract and down the River for quantity to run down the River a sufficient distance so that a line run thence to the back line of said tract at a right angle with that portion of the River will make the above quantity of fifty acres being the same tract of land formerly claimed by Mrs. Mary Sheew and enough say some ten acres adjoining it to make the fifty acres. The title to which tract of land the Vendor Eli Splawn doth hereby & by these presents warrant and will forever defend to be free from the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever. This sale is made for & in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars five hundred dollars cash the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged & five hundred dollars payable the 1st of Janry 1858 for which amount the said Sarah Stone has this day executed her promissory note to the order of the said Eli Splawn _______ even state with this act & stipulating eight percent per annum interest after maturity till paid & for the final payment of said Note She doth hereby and by these presents specially mortgage & hypothicate the land herein sold & described till the final payment of said note.
