Roberts, December 1, 1905 Catahoula Parish (now LaSalle Parish, LA) Major Doughty, resident of Tullos, Catahoula Parish appeared before J.H. Bradford, Notary Public sold 40 acres of land to H.D. Roberts for the sum of $600.00. 40 acres of land described as: NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 6, Township 8, North, Range 4 East, LA Meridian. 3 promissory notes were drawn as follows: 1 note: $300.00 drawn by Major Doughty, Sept. 23, 1903, payable to J.G. Womack, payable Dec. 20 of same year, against property, a mortgage note described; 2nd note: drawn by H.D. Roberts & Major Doughty and witnessed by S.B. Hanes for $200.00 drawn Nov. 4, 1903 payable to J.A. Lanier 60 days thereafter, 3rd note: drawn by Major Doughty & H.D. Roberts drawn on July 29, 1903 for sum of $100.00 made payable to J.A. Lanier 90 days after This done and passed in Jena, Catahoula Parish, Dec. 1, 1905 in the presence of L.L. Roberts and T.J. Roberts, both competent subscribing witnesses and me said Notary. Roberts Catahoula Parish, Notarial Record Book 18, Catahoula Parish Courthouse, Harrisonburg, LA Filed and Recorded: April 16, 1916 (Henry Dixon Roberts, son of Thomas Jefferson Roberts and Margaret Lorena Wilkinson. This is the original land purchased by H.D. Roberts for his family and his father and is located in Jena on the Roberts Hill behind the current day elementary school. Portions of this land is still owned by descendants of H.D. Roberts and his wife, Davie Womack. This land transaction was apparently not recorded in the courthouse until April 1916, a few months prior to the death of T.J. Roberts in August 1916.)
