Baker State of Louisiana } Parish of Catahoula } Be it Known that I Elizabeth Splawn of Said Parish herein joined and authorized by my husband Eli Splawn for and in consideration of the price and sum of Eight hundred Dollars, paid in the manner hereinafter expressed have this day and do by these presents bargain sell transfer and deliver unto Isaac Baker the following named slaves inherited by me from the succession of my Father, Benjamin Baker to wit: Ben, a negro man aged about 58, his wife, Rose about 40, & her two children, Janie about three years old and Syntha, about 14 months of age. The price is paid as follows, Seven hundred dollars thereof is paid in cash, for the sum oweing one hundred dollars, the Said Purchaser has Executed this promissory note to the order of Said Elizabeth Splawn payable on the first of November 1851. To have and hold said Slaves to the proper use, and benefit of him the said purchaser, his heirs and assignees forever.
