"Bobby" Abbott, 58, of Jena, died at 9:10 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 1999, at LaSalle General Hospital of Jena following an extended illness. He was a leasing operator with CNG Producing Company, a veteran of the US. Navy and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5002 of Jan. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 28, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Gary Norris and Joey Paul officiating. Interment followed in the Nebo Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. Survivors include his wife Hazel J. Paul Abbott of Nebo; one daughter, Patricia K. Specht of Nebo; one son, Walter D. Date: March 8, 2000 Headline: Area Deaths Sub-Headline: William E. Acklen William E. Acklen, 87, of Jena, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at his residence. He was a retired civil engineer for the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. He was a member of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during World War II. He was born March 16, 1912, at Arcadia to the union of Charley and Evie Effie Caldwell Acklen. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 2, at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with the Revs. Lloyd Mayeau and Dominik DiCarlo officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Inc. of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Ann Acklen of Jena; two sons, Charles Acklen and David Acklen, both of Shreveport; one stepson, Curtis "Butch" Davis of Jena; two brothers, J. E. Acklen of League City, Texas, and J. J. Acklen of Buchanna Dam, Texas; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchildren. OLIVE FRAZIER ABELS Mrs. Olive Frazier Abels, 62, of Rogers, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 1986, at the Huey P. Long Hospital in Pineville. Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Victory Baptist Church of Rogers with Revs. Jerry Wilson and Glenn Maughon, officiating. Burial followed at Frazier Cemetery of Rogers under arrangement of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include her husband, Earl Abels, Sr. of Rogers; three daughters, Mrs. Sharon Robertson of Rogers, Mrs. Dottie Phillips of Wharton, Texas and Mrs. Marie Coon of Simsboro; one step-daughter, Margaret Malone of Ball; two step-sons, Earl Abels, Jr. and Terry Abels, both of Ball; a brother Leonard A. Frazier and Jerry Frazier. ========== ----------------- ADAMS, Emma Adams ----------------- Submitted by: Pat Ezell, pezell@satx.rr.com Source: The Jena Times, Thursday, December 17, 1936 Date: April 2005 Mrs. Emma Adams Called by Death at Her Midway Home The sudden death of Mrs. Emma Adams, 73, which occurred at her home in Midway, Tuesday night came as a distinct shock to her many friends throughout this section. Mrs. Adams has been in ill health for sometime, but her death was attributed to a heart attack. The deceased had been a resident of the Good Pine and Midway communities for the past thirty odd years, having moved to Good Pine about the time the sawmill operations were started there. She was born in Alabama but came to Catahoula parish early in life. Her husband preceded her to the grave. A member of the Methodist church, she was beloved by all who knew her in this section. Surviving Mrs. Adams are the following children: Mrs. John R. Price, San Angelo, Texas; Mrs. C.W. Davidson, Rochelle; Bert and Spencer Adams, Good Pine and Mrs. J.W. Walters, Good Pine. Funeral arrangements had not been made at the time of going to press. Submitter's note: Emma J. Adams was the daughter of William Presley Meyers and Melissa Arromanta. She was the wife of Tolbert Adams who predeceased her. Emma J. He was a retired well tester, member of East Jena Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the LaSalle Riding Club. A veteran of World War II. Adams was born Sept. 11, 1925, in LaSalle Parish to the union of Thomas and Rosie Enterkin Adams. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, at the East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Craig James and Clyde Sanchez officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Adams of Jena; one step-daughter, Darla Boyd of Trout; one step-son, Danny Perry of Ball; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Don Adams, Joe Adams, David Jones, Kirby Jones, Kenneth Cruse and Hansen Stringer. Adams, 79, of Jena, died at 12:20 p.m. Friday, March 27, 1998, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was a retired salesman in the dry goods business. For many years, Mr. Adams was manager of U. B. Carpenter's Department Store in Jena. Later he joined his son operating Don's Menswear in Jena. He was born Nov. 18, 1918 in Jackson Parish, to the union of John C. and Alma Thompson Adams. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at the chapel of Kinner and Stenens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. John Johns officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Inc., of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Varnoil Simmons Adams of Jena; one daughter, Marsha Adams and two sons, Donnie Adams and Mike Adams, all of Jena; one sister, Etoil Hammons of Shreveport and Clio Adams of Sikes; and two grand- children.
