Services for Mrs. Mary Helen Young, 81, of Columbia and formerly of LaSalle 
Parish were 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, from the Standard Baptist Church at 
Olla with the Dr. Ronald Mitchell officiating.  Interment followed in the Pine 
Hill Cemetery at Urania.  Services were under direction of Riser Funeral Home 
of Columbia & Olla.  Mrs. Young a homemaker died Sunday April 16, 2000 at the 
Citizens Medical Center in Columbia following an extended illness.  Mary Helen 
Powell Young was born on December 25, 1918 at Kelly LA to the union of her 
late parents, Jessie M. & Maude McBroom Powell.  She was a member of the 
Standard Baptist Church, and was preceded by her husband, Rev. John J. Young 
and by two brothers and a sister: Arnold Powell, Jack Powell, and Opal 
Powell.  Survivors include: two sons Jessie J. Young, Olla and John J. Young, 
Jr., Port Barre; seven daughters: Helen Jackson, Wilmington, NC, Laverne 
Roberson, Nebo, Vivian Townley, Cleburn, TX, Delores McAdams, Roxie, MS, 
Johnnie Dale Boutwell, Garyville, LA, and Sharron Mitchell, Chattanooga, TN; a 
brother: Bill Powell of Kelly; three sisters; Bobbie Hendrix, Kelly, Annie Mae 
Mitchell, West Monroe, and Jessie Mae Martin, Olla; 25 grandchildren, 51 great 
grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren.  Serving as pallbearers were 
grandsons, consisting of: Rusty McCartney, Alan Mitchell, Jim Young, Jesse Ray 
Young, Gary Boutwell, and Denny Jackson.

Additional Comments:
Helen married (1) John Jackson YOUNG on 19 Aug 1933 in Olla LA, and (2) Daniel 
Jackson BROCKNER on 26 Sep 1992 in Columbia LA.
