Date: July 11, 1957 Headline: Mrs. Pearl Cader, 70, Dies at Olla Home Mrs. Pearl Cader of Olla, who died at her home Friday evening shortly after 6 o'clock, was buried Saturday afternoon following services held at the Standard Baptist Church at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Doris Dearmon and the Rev. Willard Bell conducted the final rites for the 70 year old woman ho died at her home. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under the direction of Kinner and Stevens Home for Funerals, Jena. Mrs. Cader, a member of the Baptist Church, was the mother of the Rev. Burley Cader, a Southern Baptist missionary to Brazil. The Rev. and Mrs. Cader were home on furlough some months ago and had only recently returned to their mission field. In addition to the missionary son, Mrs. Cader is survived by three other sons, Norman Stott and Sidney Cader, both of Olla; and Audie D. Stott of Pineville; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Mae Cockerham of Monroe and Mrs. Jewell Evans of Olla, 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. ========== -------------------- CAIN, William Robert -------------------- Submitted by: Heidi Nelson Source: "The Oakdale Journal", Vol. 34, Date: Thursday, April 10, 1947 Headline: Funeral Services Held for W. R. Cain at First Baptist Church Funeral services for William Robert Cain, 82, were conducted at the First Baptist Church, Oakdale, Tuesday morning, at 10:00 o'clock by Rev. H. T. Sullivan, pastor, and Rev. E. C. Harris, former pastor, but now of West Lake. Members of the Brotherhood of the First Baptist church, of which Mr. Cain was a loyal and faithful member, served as pall bearers, and special music was given by an all-men choir, members of the brotherhood and the Men's Sunday school class to which Mr. Cain also belonged. Following the services at the church the body was carried to Olla and laid to rest beside his wife, who passed away in 1911. Among those accompanying the body were all his children, Rev. Harris, who conducted another brief service upon arrival in Olla, and a concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors. The degree team of the W.O.W. Camp No. 306, Urania, composed of Carl W, Harris, captain; Tommy S. Wilson, council commander; John Rogers, ascort; J. W. Boyette, advisor lieutenant; Floyd Smith, Albert Fogleman, Ira Whittington, L.C. Smith and Harvey Vestal, carried out impressive services for their organization at the graveside. Mr. Cain had been identified with the W.O.W. for more than 40 years. Mr. Cain passed away Monday morning at 1:00 o'clock, following a heart attack, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Orin Miller, where he had made his home for the past thirteen years. He had been in ill health for sometime and had returned to Oakdale only a few days previous to his death from New Orleans, accompanied by his son, Dewitt Cain, who along with others, administered in every way possible to his comfort and relief, during his last days. The deceased was born in Palestine, Texas, August 15, 1865. He pursued farming for livlihood, until in later years when he was employed at sawmills. He left his native state in 1902, moving to North Louisiana, and in 1914 came to Oakdale to make his home. For the past twenty years he has lived from time to time with his daughters, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. G. W. Wallis. Mr. Cain who will long be remembered for his humble and meek services - though outstanding - through the activities of the Baptist church, is survived by two sons, John R. Cain, El Paso, Taxes, and Dewitt T. Cain of New Orleans; three daughters, Mrs. Orin Miller, Oakdale, Mrs. George W. Wallis, Olla, and Mrs. E.J. Voss, Washington, D.C. Cannon, brother of H. W. Cannon of Jena, died at his home in Many Sunday from injuries received in an accident a week previous to his death. Mr. Cannon was an oil field worker and on Sunday, March 8, while placing a beam on a derrick he was struck in some manner causing him to fall. He suffered a fractured skull and other head injuries in the fall. Spinal meningitis developed causing his death. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Carruth of near Glenmora, died Tuesday morning as a result of a shooting affray between Carruth and Fount Price of Jena. Price was also seriously injured and is confined to the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria. Price was shot several times, one bullet going through the lung. Latest reports from Price is to the effect that he is doing as nicely as could be expected. Price was engaged as range rider in the Glenmora section where cattle dipping was being conducted. He had been in that section for the past several months. Carruth was prominently connected in Rapides Parish, having been born and reared in that section. He was a farmer and stockman and resided about three miles south of Glenmora. Mr. Price is a native of this section and is well known throughout the country. Carter, veteran steamboat operator on the Mississippi River and lower tributaries who retired from active navigation eight years ago, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at his home, 2819 Chippewa Street, in New Orleans. Funeral services were held from the Lutz Funeral Parlors on Jackson Avenue, Alexandria, 4 p.m. Tuesday. Captain Carter and two brothers, Captain E. G. carter and H. M. Carter, operated the Carter Packet Company on the Mississippi, Red, Black, Ouachita and other tributary rivers for a quarter of a century. He was 72 years old. Captain Cater is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Huener Buck-Carter and one brother, Captain E. G. Carter. He was a member of Masters, Mates and Pilots, Harbor No. 18. He was a nephew of S. B. Services for Mrs. Cary were held at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Kilpatricks Funeral Home in Monroe. Graveside services were held at Nolley Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday. Cassidy, prominent lawyer of that section, was killed last Saturday afternoon in an automobile wreck. Mr. Cassidy was well known in LaSalle having at this time a suite before the local court in which C. B. Meyers and wife are suing the Gulf Public Service Company for the death of their son at the local light plant last year. Attorney S. R. Holstein, of Jena, was associated with Mr. Cassidy in the local court.
