Date: January 5, 1967 Headline: Mrs. Alice Carter Dies in Caldwell Hospital, Columbia Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Carter, 63, of Grayson, were held Saturday at the Old Union Baptist Church with the Rev. L. C. Crain officiating. Mrs. Carter left a half-brother, Hilery McCaskill, in Jena. She died Thursday afternoon, December 29, at Caldwell Hospital after a long illness. Burial was in the Old Union Church Cemetery with arrangements by Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Survivors are her husband, Troy Carter of Grayson, one daughter, Mrs. Jewel Coats of Grayson; four half-brothers Hilery McCaskill of Jena, Jimmy McCaskill of Beaumont, Tex., L. C. "Sonny" Carter, 74, of Pollock, died Sunday, December 27, 1998, in LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. He was a member of Sims Wesleyan Church and retired from self-employment in the upholstery business. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, in Pollock United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Mark Roberts, Dennis Fontenot and David Henry officiating. Interment followed in Pollock Cemetery under direction of Rush Funeral Home of Pineville. Survivors include his wife, Bessie Wiles Carter of Pollock; two sons, Edward Earl Carter, Jr. and Roger Dale Carter, both of Pollock; three daughters, Joann Carter, Tessie Holden and Connie Carter Peck, all of Pollock; five brothers, James Carter, Melvin Carter and William Carter, all of Pollock, Robert Carter of Monroe and J. P. Date: August 30, 1951 Headline: Funeral Rites Held for Mrs. Carter Funeral services for Mrs. Kate Carter, 53, who passed away Thursday after an illness of about four weeks, were held at the First Baptist Church in Jena Friday afternoon. The Rev. J. P. Owens, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Otis Spinks, pastor of the Nolley Memorial Methodist Church officiated at the services. The song program was presented by the choir, and by Nick Medica, who rendered a vocal selection. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Rhinehart, under the direction of the Kinner and Stevens Home for Funerals, Jena. Mrs. Carter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jena. She was the widow of the late Richard L. Carter. She was long a resident of the Jena area. The Carter family moved to Trout from Texas in 1929. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. B. Richardson of Rhinehart and Mrs. Truly Friday of Alexandria; one son, Doyle Carter of Jena; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Goetzman of Jena and Mrs. M. Z. Belvin of Oakdale; and two grandsons, Richard Fewell of Rhinehart and Donald Friday of Alexandria. Pallbearers at the funeral were T. S. Harp, William Maxwell, K. G. Brooks, T. W. Date: July 20, 1950, Thursday Funeral Held for Mrs. J.W. Carter, 73, On Tuesday Morning Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist church of Jena for Mrs. Leslie O'Bannon carter, wife of MR. J. Wolfe Carter of Jena and aunt of Mr. Malcolm Lafargue, candidate for the U.S. Senate. The Rev. J.P. Owens, pastor of church, assisted by Dr. J.L. Stone, former pastor and now head of social science department at Arkansas A&M college, Monticello, Ark. Was in charge of services, with interment in the Nolley Memorial cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers. Mrs. Carter died Sunday night at 11:30 o'clock at the age of 73, following a long and lingering illness. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and a talented painter and needlecraft worker. She was a native of Summerfield in Claiborne parish and a graduate of the old Mt. Lebonon college which later was moved to Pineville and established at Louisiana college. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Charles of Reeves, La., Alton, postmaster at Jonesville and Turner of Jena; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Lafargue of Marksville and Mrs. A. Eolian Baker Hardy of Mt. Lebanon, one brother, T.W. O'Bannon of Pollock, two grand-daughters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was 53 years old, a member of the Olla First Baptist church and the Eastern Star. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 29 at 3 p.m. in the Olla First Baptist church with the Rev. b. B. Microfilm at the LaSalle Parish Library located in Jena, LaSalle Parish, La. Date: December 8, 1927 Headline: Captain Carter, a Veteran Steamboat Operator, Is Dead Captain Walter M. Carter, veteran steamboat operator on the Mississippi River and lower tributaries who retired from active navigation eight years ago, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at his home, 2819 Chippewa Street, in New Orleans. Funeral services were held from the Lutz Funeral Parlors on Jackson Avenue, Alexandria, 4 p.m. Tuesday. Captain Carter and two brothers, Captain E. G. carter and H. M. Carter, operated the Carter Packet Company on the Mississippi, Red, Black, Ouachita and other tributary rivers for a quarter of a century. He was 72 years old. Captain Cater is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Huener Buck-Carter and one brother, Captain E. G. Carter. He was a member of Masters, Mates and Pilots, Harbor No. 18. He was a nephew of S. B.
