She had been a resident of that community for five years and was 58 years, 11 months and 14 days old. Funeral services were held at Holloway Prairie at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon with Rev. LaCroix , of Tioga, officiating. Interment following in the cemtery at that place. Under the direction of Kinnerand Stevens, local undertakers. Date: Thursday, May 25, 1933 Mrs. Steve Crooks Called by Death at Home on Tuesday Mrs Bettie Watkins Crooks, wife of Steve Crooks, Sr., was called by death at 9 o'clock Tuesday at her home here after five weeks of illness from heart trouble. The deceased was born in Pineville January 23, 1880 and was therefore 53 years of age at the time of her death. She had been a resident of this section for the past 21 years, having moved her from Lavacca, Louisiana. Mrs. Crooks had been a devoted member of the Baptist Church in Jena since 1901 and her pleasant personality endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning. Date: December 5, 1929, Thursday Headline: Boney Crooks Dies at Chase Saturday, Buried on Monday Local friends will regret to learn of the untimely death of Boney Crooks, aged 35, years, who passed away at his home in Chase, Franklin Parish, Saturday night of last week, after a lingering illness of several months. Mr. Crooks, who was a nephew of J. G. Crooks, of Zenoria, and a son of Gilbert Crooks, also of Chase; had resided in Chase for about two years. Montpelier, 26, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon and brought to the parish jail at Vidalia to await further investigation regarding the death of Crooks, who was shot Sunday afternoon aboard a house boat near the Louisiana and Arkansas railroad bridge on Black River, about 20 miles from Ferriday, where both reside. Ferriday, Sept. 21 (Special) - As a result of a fight here Sunday afternoon, J. B. Miller, 45 year old lumber man, is dead, and F. J. Brown, 48, another timberman, is being held in the parish prison at Vidalia on a charge of murder after Miller died in a hospital at Natchez, Miss., where he was taken after the shooting. Date: Thursday, October 8, 1936 Headline: BELOVED LADY IS LAID TO REST AT NEBO TUESDAY Mrs. Steve Crooks Dies at Shreveport Hospital Monday Afternoon The passing of Mrs. Rachel Crooks, wife of Steve Crooks, local deputy sheriff, at a Shreveport hospital at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon was a distinct shock to the citizens of this section where she had resided her entire life. Mrs. Crooks had been in ill health for some time but her condition did not become serious until about three months ago when complications set in. She was later conveyed to the Shreveport hospital where everything that medical skill and loving care could possibly accomplish was administered. Her death, while not entirely unexpected, came as a surprise last Monday. The deceased was a member of the Baptist church at Jena, having united early in life. She had been married 34 years and was beloved by all who knew her. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church in Nebo at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with interment in the Nebo cemetery. Rev. B. T. Crooks, 64, of Jena, died at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 1990 at the St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, following as extended illness. He was a retired oilfield worker, a member of the Baptist Church, member of masonic Lodge, #432, Pickens, Miss. and a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Navy. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Revs. Lawrence Hailey, Aaron Paul Erwin and Vernon Bradley, officiating. Interment followed at Jena Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Crooks of Jena; a saughter, Jan Nolan of Jena; three brothers, Julian Crooks of Archie, J.W. Crooks and Lawrence "Babe" Crooks, both of Jena; six sisters, Doris Doughty, Brenda Deville and Mary Graham, all of Jena; Leola Briethaupt of Ingleside, Texas, Iram Callender of Mendenhall, Miss., and Glenda Johnson of Krotz Springs; and two grandchildren.
