Ezell, 82, Dies at Home in jena Dewitt Melvin Ezell, 82-year-old resident of Jena, who died at his home Sunday morning shortly before noon was buried Tuesday afternoon at Forsythe cemetery, Jena, following services held in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Home for Funeral, Jena. Mr. Ezell, member of a Catahoula-LaSalle parish pioneer family is survived by a brother, Will Ezell, and three sisters, Miss Rowena Ezell, Mrs. Mollie Ezell Heard and Mrs. Aurlia Ezell Wilkerson, all fo Jena. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.O. Lynch, pastor of Nolley Memorial Methodist church and the Rev. Date: April 15, 1955 Headline: Mrs. Hettie Ezell, 74, Mother of Woman in Olla Dies at gilbert Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday at the First Methodist church of gilbert for Mrs. Hettie Ezell, 74, who died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. R. W. Rogers of Gilbert shortly after 4 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Ezell is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Troy Wilson of Olla, mrs. G. R. Hanks, Jr. and Mrs. Rogers, both of Gilbert and Mrs. Murray Caldwell of Wisner; three sons, Jess and Morgan Ezell, both of Gilbert and Alvin of Delhi; 26 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. The Rev. H. W. Boyd, pastor of the Gilbert Methodist church conducted final rites, assisted by the Rev. J. L. Hailey. WHEREAS, It has pleased Almighty God in the exercise of his Sovereign will to remove by death our highly esteemed and efficient Treasurer, Dr. Jefferson Ezell, therefore we the members of the board of Directors of Jena Seminary do hereby RESOLVE, That while we have great reason to mourn the sad loss we have sustained by this sudden stroke of affliction, yet we meekly bow to the will, 'Him who doeth all things well.' RESOLVED, That we most sincerely sympathize with the stricken wife and bereaved children in their deep sorrow and would invoke the devine blessing to rest upon them in their sad affliction. Headline: JENA, La., April 18. -- (Special) John Monroe Ezell, 75, well known farmer of LaSalle and resident of Jena for seventy-one years, died at the Charity hospital in Pineville on April 11 at 2 p.m. of heart disease. The deceased was born in Jackson parish and was married to Miss Mamie Heard, deceased, in 1890. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Jena. Funeral services were held April 12 with Rev. Lee Brooks of Rhinehart officiating. Interment was made at the Nolley Memorial cemetery in Jena under the directions of Kinner & Stevens funeral home of Jena. Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. W.L. Garrett of De Ridder, Mrs. D.D. Shaw of Jena, Mrs. J. D. O'Quin of Texas City, Tex., and Mrs. S.D. Hanes of Jena. Ezell Answers Last Summons Last Sunday Night The untimely death of Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Ezell, who passed away at her home in Jena on Sunday evening at 9:30 o'clock closed the career of one of the pioneer citizens of LaSalle parish. Born in Jena on July 21, 1845, she saw this community begin its existence and numbered among her friends pioneers from every walk of life. Early in life she united with the Baptist church and was a member of the Salem Baptist church at the time of her death. On February 14, 1866, she was married to Dr. Jefferson Ezell, to which union eight children were born, 6 of whom survive. Her husband preceded her to the grave several years ago. The six remaining children are: Mrs. Molly Heard, Crowley; Mrs. Aurelia Wilkinson, Gueydan; Willie E. Ezell, Jena; Anthony H. Ezell, Sherman, Tex; and Miss Rowena Ezell, Jena. Funeral services were conducted from her home on Oak street here on Monday afternoon, interment following in the Forsythe cemetery. Rev. L.D. Posey, pastor of the Jena Baptist church paid a glowing tribute to her memory and scores of friends of the family were present at the last rites. Date: July 28, 1999, Wednesday Headline: Area Deaths Olney Preston "Sonny" Ezell, Jr., 67, of Valdez, Alaska, died at 3 a.m., July 22, 1999, in Valdez. He was retired and was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served four years including a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Trout-Goodpine High School. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 1999. Date: Wednesday, April 4, 1990; page 4C Otha Lee Ezell Otha Lee Ezell, 62, of Deville, died Thursday, March 29, 1990 at the Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria. He was a member of Sunset Acres Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed in the food service department for an offshore oil company. He was a native of Jena. Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers in Pineville with the Rev. Billy Wayne Franks, officiating. Burial followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Inc. Survivors include his wife, Betty Ray Ezell of Deville; one son, Paul Ezell of Deville; one daughter, Brenda Ezell Bryan of Alexandria; a brother, James Ezell of Jena; a sister, Myrtle Bird of Jena and one grandchild. She was a homemaker and member of the Jena First United Pentecostal Church. She was born Dec.11, 1916, in Quitman, to the union of Andrew and Delia Johnson White. Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Crawford Coon, Ricky Wilson and Jack West officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. Survivors include three daughters, Junevie "June" Lanidier of Deville, Louise Henderson of Des Moines, Ia., and Sandra Miles of Deville; one sister, Clarice Ganey of Trout; three brothers, Elbert White and E.C. White, both of Jena and Lee White of Hawkins, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Headline: WELL KNOWN JENA PIONEER DIED MAY 17 Willie S. Ezell, 98, of Jena, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 17, at his home in Jena. He was a retired clerk and member of the Methodist Church. "Mr. Willie" as he was so fondly known, was very active until just a few months ago. He made regular visits to uptown Jena daily until his health prevented the daily visits. At 94, he was a very active participant in the last Jena Howdy Neighbor Day staying the entire day enjoying the activities and taking part in the square dancing. Funeral services were held at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Eldred Blakely, officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery of Jena with arrangements by Kinner and Stevens, Inc., of Jena. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Kemp of Pineville; one son, Roy Ezell of Ruston, one sister, Miss Rowena Ezell of Jena; two grandchildren, Mrs. Pat Cross of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Hilma Nelson of San Francisco, California.
