Coroner Despondency caused by continued ill health led Mrs. W. G. Ferrand, ?5, to take her own life early Friday by shooting herself through the heart with two charges of buckshot from a double-barreled shotgun according to Dr. S. H. Brown, Caldwell parish coroner. Mrs. Ferrand was the wife of a prominent retired merchant of Columbia. News of the tragedy came as a distinct shock to citizens of that section. An investigation conducted by Dr. Brown resulted in conclusion that she had taken her own life with suicidal intent. The suicide occurred at the Ferrand home Friday afternoon between 2 and 3 o'clock while Mr. Ferran was conducting a search for his wife on the banks of the Ouchita river. There were no witnesses.
