(Bill) Franklin, 57, of Magnolia Community, died at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 1990, at the Veterans Administration medical Center in Alexandria after a six month bout with cancer. Franklin was a retired U.S. Army specialist, with two trips to Vietnam during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired with 21 years service in 1973 and later joined Humphries Motors Inc. as a mechanic where he worked until sickness caused him to retire last summer. He was also a member of Midway Baptist Church of Jena. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Rick Feazell and Craig Franklin, officiating. Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Verlene Franklin of Magnolia Community; three daughters, Kathy Taylor of New Orleans; Melba Fields of Monroe and Alice Otwell of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Euna Mae Phillips of Columbia nad Katherine Ellerbe of Grayson; three brothers, Wavle B. Franklin of Columbia; Sammy J. Franklin of Jena; and George M. Franklin of Oklahoma; and one grandson. Full military honors were conducted during interment at Woodland Cemetery of Jena. Personnel from the 588th Engineers Division, Devil Troop Brigade of Ft. Polk were pallbearers and conducted the military burial. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Humphries Motors Inc. of Jena.
