All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Dr. William Harrison Floyd Died Thursday, November 21 Dr. William Harrison Floyd, age 55 years, 11 months and 27 days, one of Jena's most beloved citizens was called by death on Thursday, November 21 at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria after a short illness. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Saturday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Tinnin, officiating assisted by Rev. W. F. Roberts, Rev. Jess Albritton and Bro. Enis Breithaupt. Dr. Floyd was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. V. Floyd of Jena, born November 24, 1884, graduated in medicine from the Memphis Medical College of Memphis, Tennessee, now know as the University of Tennessee, in 1910. He was a member of the American Medical Society, State Medical Society, District Medical Society, Member of the Michael Dempsey Lodge No. 327 F & A.M. Jena, Member of the Woodmen of the World, Walters. Soon after finishing school Dr. Floyd returned here and started practicing medicine at Nebo where he stayed for several years, later moving to French Fork, moving to Jena in 1927. In 1930 he bought the Jena Drug Store which he still operated at his death. He was survived by: his wife Mrs. W.H. Floyd, two sons, W. M. student of Atlanta Southern Dental College, Atlanta, Ga., Ray Floyd of Jena; four brothers, S.D. Floyd, Pineville; C.L. Floyd, Walters; J.C. Floyd, Baton Rouge; Ulis Floyd, Jena; four sisters, Mrs. Martha Bass, Walters; Mrs. Sallie Weems, Baskin; Mrs. Flora Chevallier, Walters; Francis Hemphill, Winnfield. Funeral services were under the direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home Jena, the Masonic lodge had charge at the grave. Interment in the Nolley Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were active, Dr. J. M. Kittrell, Mayor Clyde C. Russell, J. D. Russell, Jr. Butler Floyd, T. A. Bradford, Bill Albritton, Albert Newburg. Pallbearers honorary, W. F. Calhoun, Dr. E. L. Miller, Dr. D. C. McBride, Dr. H. H. Hardy, Jr., Dr. M. B. Pearce, Rep. A. D. Flowers, C. E. Roark, Phillip Girlinghouse, C. H. Davis, W. W. Brewton, Bill Benton, Lee Davis, Judge F. E. Jones, J. M. Whatley, Dr. D. L. Trax.
